The winter sheepshead bite has already begun. It is a bit early this year as they normally don't start gathering on the rocks and ledges until Jan. It is not yet near the peak and some days are still better than others so Jan. and Feb should still be the best time to catch these hard fighting, striped bait stealers.
Redfish are very active now but most are what I call "rat reds" as they are just under the 18 inch legal length. But, that is made up for by the numbers of fish and they are fun to catch.
A few Spanish macks are still hanging when the weather is warm. When Winter arrives fully, they usually head south to warmer waters only to return around late Feb-early March.
